Forget TOWIE, world's oldest horse Shayne is Brentwood's real star!
Thinking about entering a veteran class at a local show this summer? If so be aware as you may come across Shayne, the 51 year old stallion thought to be the oldest living horse in the world!
Living in the Remus Memorial Horse Sanctuary since 2007, Shayne is living out his life at the sanctuary based in Brentwood, Essex. Still very much alive and kicking, Shayne spends his days trotting around his 40 acre paddock.
We get people who rescue a horse and they say it is in its 30s and then it knocks them for six when we say we have one in its 50s.’ said sanctuary founder, Sue Burton.
'Shayne is a really good boy. He is still very active - sometimes we forget how old he is.’
'I guess his secret to a long life is taking it easy in his old age and enjoying his retirement.’
Shayne lives on and thanks to specialised horse equipment and horse supplies such as food, horse rugs and bedding many horses are living to an older age.
The stallion is believed to have inherited the title in 2004 after the death of the previous holder. He doesn’t have a birth certificate but together with veterinary advice and his known history they are sure he is 51 years of age.
Brentwood must have something in the air with Shayne not being the only V.I.P, O.A.P in the area sharing the town with the oldest dog in the world, 24 year old terrier, Pip.
